TotalEnergies supplied H2 fuel for the demonstration of the first hydrogen-powered crawler excavator developed by the Liebherr Group, the R 9 XX H2, at Bauma 2022 – the world's leading trade fair for construction and off-road machinery in Munich, Germany!

Watch this short video below of TotalEnergies' mobile hydrogen station solution used to refuel Liebherr's H2 excavator at the end of each day during the fair.

The first Liebherr hydrogen-powered crawler excavator

Liebherr and TotalEnergies worked together for efficient fuel supply of the H2 crawler excavator unveiled at Bauma 2022 (Oct 24-30). The Liebherr R 9XX H2 could be seen in action dynamically during daily live shows at Liebherr’s outdoor area. Here TotalEnergies ensured that the excavator could be filled up quickly and comfortably with renewable hydrogen through a mobile H2 refueling station, at any time.

TotalEnergies H2 supply solution for construction & off-road sectors

The hydrogen refueling station (HRS) deployed by TotalEnergies for Lieberr at the occasion of Bauma is an example of a future mobile HRS solution for changing locations that can be expanded with modularly expandable storage systems or on-site electrolysis.

Environmentally friendly & performance comparable to diesel engines

At the heart of the R 9XX H2 excavator is the H966 hydrogen combustion engine developed by Liebherr Machines Bulle in Switzerland. With the new development, almost the same performance parameters are achieved as with a diesel engine, this applies to the power, the engine dynamics and the responsiveness of the engine.

Liebherr and TotalEnergies prepared the cooperation at the Bauma trade fair as part of a collaboration on environmentally friendly hydrogen systems and efficient refueling solutions for the H2 crawler excavator.
