If biomethane mixes with natural gas in the grid, how is the biomethane supply guaranteed?

Even though biomethane is injected into the gas grid and physically mixes with fossil natural gas, we can still guarantee your biomethane supply through a Guarantee of Origin (GO) system. Comparable to green electricity a GO is an electronic certificate that tracks the renewable attributes of biomethane from production to final use. It ensures that the amount of biomethane you purchase is produced and injected into the grid on your behalf, even if the physical molecules delivered to your site are part of a mixed gas stream.

This system—used across Europe and recognized under renewable energy regulations—prevents double counting and offers full traceability. In practice, it means you receive certified renewable gas, backed by verified documentation, independent auditing, and national or European registries that record each MWh of biomethane produced and allocated to end users.
