The Private Stations Business Model (PSBM)

TotalEnergies operates private stations for refueling natural gas for vehicles (LNG, CNG, biomethane) and hydrogen (H2, renewable H2), as well as for recharging with electricity (EV). The Private Station Business Model targets captive fleets: a homebased fleet of vehicles with a predictable refueling pattern and driving schedule. Suitable for any type of vehicle that regularly visits a depot, such as: city buses, garbage trucks, ferries, boats, and cabs.

We have the data, know-how and resources to build a profitable business-case and make new energies available and affordable. By integrating technical knowledge and operational experience into an end-to-end solution, we are able to deliver ‘Fueling-as-a-Service’ with the Private Station Business Model. For more than 10 years, TotalEnergies has been successfully operating multiple private refueling stations in the Netherlands. The operations vary from 15 to 150 buses to be refueled per day, per station.

This video presents the private refueling station of Dutch public transport bus operator EBS in Den Hoorn. Operational since 2019 until 2027, the EBS station currently refuels 30 buses per day with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

TotalEnergies provides EBS with the full Private Station Business Model, based on DBFMO:

Design the complete station.
Build the station, including grid connections and accompanying civil works.
Finance the station.
Maintain the station, both preventive and curative maintenance.
Operate the station, including, among others, management of the grid connection and buying of commodities.

This private refueling station of EBS in Den Hoorn is designed with 100% redundancy. This is to guarantee availability so that EBS can always refuel its fleet and to ensure a continuous bus operation.

The Private Station Business Model offers customers a turnkey solution based on a customized installation design. TotalEnergies guarantees availability and uptime in return for a service fee per kilo as agreed in a long-term contract. The station of EBS in Den Hoorn showcases the value of this model with an average uptime of 99.9% and a contractual maximum of 3 hours downtime per incident.
